Golf Course Reviews

You will find that the course reviews in this area are more detailed than those provided with our standard course search results. We are sharing course reviews with our friends at sfbaygolf.com, so you will be able to find their reviews here, and our reviews there. Given that reviews are editorial in nature, the opinions expressed by sfbaygolf editors do not necessarily reflect those of SFgolfer staff, and vice versa. Please select a course below, and get the full lowdown from dedicated local golfers:

StoneTree GC, Novato new!
A new course up in Marin, just off 101 on highway 37, this challenging course gets everything right...

If you can find someone who's a member of this private club, you'll want to give it a try. It will show why people pay to join these kind of places.

Boundary Oak, Walnut Creek
Hey, isn't this supposed to be the best course for the money in the East Bay? It's still one of the better deals around, but it's not quite what it used to be.

The Bridges, San Ramon
If you're looking to go a little upscale and get your money's worth, this is the place. Don't get too in love with your driver, though.

Confidence low because you've been scuffling lately? Come out to this place. It's easy. Lots of short holes with little trouble make this a great place to get back on track.

Cinnabar Hills, San Jose new!
Just south of Silicon Valley, this upscale public course offers 27 holes that will be a challenge for everyone.

Going to SFO is a real pain, but it can be made much more pleasurable with a stop at this nearby golf course on the way.

OK, maybe this is a little out of the Bay Area, but it's well worth the drive. Two courses for 100 bucks! Great courses, too.

Road trip! Lake Tahoe is not as far away as you'd think. If you love golf and gambling, this is heaven. Even if you just love golf.

Franklin Canyon, Rodeo
You have to be looking for this place, because you won't just drive by on your way to somewhere else. It's worth the trip, though.

Don't worry that it's not a true Scottish-style links course, it's still great. Here at sfbaygolf.com, we love any course by the water.

Lake Chabot, Oakland
Ahh, golf with no pretense. Tired of the country club uppity ups? Get up in the Oakland hills to this place. You might also want to bring a camera to capture some breathtaking views.

Las Positas , Livermore
If wind doesn't bother you, and it hasn't rained in a month or so, this is a great place to play. It's a Goldilocks course. Not too much of anything. Just right.

Looking for the best round of golf in the East Bay for under $20? Here it is. Check out this beautifully maintained course. But don't drive on the fairway!

Poppy Hills, Pebble Beach
Not technically in the Bay Area, this is one of those worth-the-drive courses. How often can you play where the pros play? It'll make you appreciate Tiger.

Trees? Who needs trees? This 27-hole layout gives you all you can handle with just one tree. It's one of the Bay Area's great bargains.

San Ramon Royal Vista, San Ramon
Give the course the Most Improved Award. It used to be a dump, but now it's in pretty good shape, and a couple of the holes have been redesigned.

Skywest, Hayward
This course doesn't look like much, but the length makes it a pretty good test of your game. And the pace makes it a test of your patience.

Tilden Park, Berkeley
If you like hills and tight fairways, this is the course for you. Despite starting you off with a killer hole, this is one of the Bay Area's most popular courses.

Turkey Creek, Lincoln new!
Don't worry if you're a little disappointed that you drove all the way out toward Sacramento for what you see on the first hole. It gets better, so much better that you'll be wanting to make the trip again.

Wente Vineyards, Livermore
This gorgeous, high-end course is definitely worth the drive out to wine country. And it really is in wine country. You can pick grapes between shots.

Winchester, Meadow Vista
This brand new private club east of Sacramento is a great day of golf. Start saving up for that membership.

Everyone plays 18 here, just not always in the same order. On any given fairway, you could get hit by a ball from another tee. Bring a helmet.
